Temple of Heaven Beijing Travel Guide
The Temple of Heaven is located in the southern urban area of Beijing, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it was exclusively used by emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to hold grand rituals to worship Heaven and pray for bumper grain harvests.
The most iconic building is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a triple-layer circular hall with dark blue glazed tiles, which has become the classic symbol of Beijing’s traditional architecture. The Imperial Vault of Heaven and the Echo Wall are also famous scenic spots with interesting acoustic phenomena, deeply loved by tourists.
Travel Tips
- Opening season: April-October 6:00-22:00; November-March 6:30-21:00.
- The Echo Wall works best when speaking close to the inner wall at both ends of the circular wall.
